The world is ancient. Older than the time of awakening, older than the time of ice, older still than Abzu Kur - whose ruins dot every corner of the known world.
In the time before the gods, the world of Ellil was forged from primordial fires and set to spin among the infinite cosmos. It was a different time then, a time of titans, of dragons and of the powerful Azer houses.
Much has changed since then; kingdoms rise and empires fall. Few now remember the old days, for which we should be thankful. For throughout time immemorial, they have watched. With infinite patience and infinite malice they have watched, and waited.

Tamarin: Rise of the third empire
The campaign begins in the Tamar city of Phirul on Quirm. Phirul is renowned for being the largest city in the known world, with a population hovering around 100,000. Some of its unique features include a zoo and the Spellstorm College.
The city began as a small stop on the road from Tamarin to Nang, but the population quickly blossomed when it was discovered that a massive underground river flowed beneath their feet, allowing for extensive irrigation and a generous water supply.
The player characters come from different corners of the world, but all were summoned to the city of Phirul by a traveling adventurer; Aniia Toll. Aniia was on a world-spanning recruitment mission for the Legion of Frontiersmen, a guild that hires out groups of adventurers to kings and queens to take on missions that are beyond the abilities of the standard soldier. Members are treated fairly and paid well, the guild only taking a small percentage of negotiated fees.
To those in the general public who know of them, Frontiersmen are mysterious and exotic. They live lives of adventure, excitement and danger that most folk couldn't understand. Membership in the guild is granted by sponsors (existing members of some standing) who act as "talent scouts", traveling the world looking for new recruits.
Before the start of the campaign, the characters made their way to Quirm and the great city of Phirul. They located the Golden Gryphon Inn, where a table was reserved for them in the name of the Legion, and waited for Aniia to show up.
Before they had a chance to introduce themselves to each other however, a strange looking man burst through the tavern doors...and all hell broke loose.
