Terry Pratchett knighted

I just found out that Terry Pratchett, one of my favorite authors received his knighthood from the Queen. Congratulations Sir Terry!

Author Terry Pratchett has been knighted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace for services to literature.

Sir Terry, 60, was named in the New Year Honours list.

Best known for his hugely popular Discworld series of comic fantasy novels, he has sold more than 55 million books worldwide.

In 2007 Sir Terry was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease and has since campaigned to raise awareness of the condition.

The Discworld series contains some of my favorite books, and it’s nice to see his work being recognized.

  1. It would have been awesome if he had ridden a giant turtle out of there afterwards. Good to see him recognized though.

I have been meaning to read Discworld for the longest time, but I am not sure which one is the first in the series… I think it is the Color of Magic or something. What do you recommend Treacle Miner Man?

  2. While there is a chronologically-first novel, there are actually several ’starting points’.

Personally, I would recommend starting with Guards! Guards! and following that path, as it has given me the most joy.

I can lend you the books if you want.

  3. If you are willing to be without the literary adventures of Discworld for a while, I would gladly borrow them from you. I can supply you with some Jasper Fforde books if you are curious, although my collection is currently partially lent to two other people.

In the meantime, I will check out the “The Colour of Magic” TV Movie that was released last year to get an idea of what it is all about.
