For the past couple of weeks I’ve been helping organize a corporate LAN night event here at the office. We’ve had them in the past, and they’ve always been appreciated. Usually we’ll set up a couple of games for people to play, and the bosses will spring for pizza and drinks. The only guidelines we’re given is that it has to be a free game and can’t be hacked.
Last night we had about 30 or 40 people participate, and I set up a server for Trackmania Nations United Forever Extreme International Extravaganza, and the demo for Battlefield 1942 which, while only having 1 map available, is a classic game and was well-received.
Trackmania is an old favorite. A couple of work buddies and I used to play together from home. As games go it is definitely more “newbie-friendly” than most, but some of the tracks present a fairly steep learning curve that can be frustrating.
The game also comes with an easy-to-use track editor, and there are hundreds of tracks on the internets that you can grab and try out. I’ll probably take some time to build some new tracks for the next LAN night.
We still haven’t played the newest version online yet. We should plan a little online racing soon…
