It’s been years since I’d seen this movie, and spotting it on the shelf at the local BLOCKBUSTER triggered a nostalgic flood that I was powerless to resist. First released in 1987, written by the Coen brothers, the film features Nicolas Cage, Holly Hunter, Frances McDormand, John Goodman and William Forsythe.

I had originally seen it on DVD some time in the late 90s and it has remained one of my all-time favorites, telling the story of petty criminal Herbert “H.I.” McDunnough (known as “Hi”) and his wife Edwina (known as “Ed”) who resort to kidnapping in order to have a family.

It’s one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen, chock full of “quote-ables” and hilariously quirky characters. If you haven’t had the chance to see this one yet, or even if it’s been a while, I highly recommend you check it out. You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. “Ok, then.”
