I’m not a Michael Jackson fan by any stretch of the definition, but the video for Smooth Criminal holds a special place in my heart simply for the amazing choreography and themes. So today I found out that Fred Astaire was the inspiration for much of what we see in that video. Check out this mashup that was posted on YouTube:

Fred Astaire, Best. Dancer. Ever. So light on his feet. No one compares to him today. I used to watch his movies with my Dad when I was younger, fond memories!
That is friggan awesome. Fred Astaire was an incredible danser. I’ve mostly seen the Ginger Rogers movies, but Cyd Charisse in there.. YOUCH! What a pair of legs! They don’t make them like that no more.
