resurrection!

The mercury outside my window reads a brisk minus 22 degrees Celsius. You may want to take a hat with you when you leave this morning. My sympathy goes out to those who actually have to go out today, for work or otherwise. Know that I am safe and warm at home, wrapped in my pajamas, mug of hot cocoa at my side and thinking of you. Let that thought comfort you as the initial stages of hypothermia take hold. Know also that the expected temperature for the day I return to work is positive 9 degrees. Let that comfort you as well.

The holiday season has passed once again, and a new page is turned. Know then that it is the year two thousand and eight. The known universe is ruled by the Padishah Emperor– well, maybe it’s a bit early for that.

For those of you who spent these past days with family, and may or may not have exchanged gifts, I hope the event was fortuitous for you. It certainly was for me.

After the ritual exchange of material goods, we went snow-shoeing at Îles de Boucherville, a provincial park not far from here. Hark! This is not your grandfather’s snow-shoeing. Gone are the days of wooden frames held taught by dried caribou tendon. Today’s snow-shoe is made from an aluminum alloy (possibly space-age, the clerk at the rental desk seemed confused when I asked) and equipped with bindings similar to those of a snowboard.

My girlfriend and I each rented a pair and spent an hour and a half getting lost in the woods, but otherwise enjoyed it. We also saw deer, or ambulatory venison as I refer to them.

The New Year was passed with friends; they hosted a small gathering at their place and, unsurprisingly, a good time was had by all. Hopefully once we move into our house we will be able to return similar favors.

That’s all for now I suppose, I have some stuff to do this morning but I expect to post another installment of Hedge the Younger later on today.

  1. :o I was already not really motivated to face the arctic cold to go to work while you were home but luckily I was not aware of this part this morning: the hot cocoa! How did you dare???? :o

Anyway, make the most of this time off because even if it will be warm on Monday, you will still have to get up and work :P

  2. Your exchanged material goods are quite interesting! I too now go Blade Running, but I make sure to bring a briefcase to handle the full definition. It is a restored beauty without equal.

So you may be at your leisure today sipping the hot cocoa, but note that we are not jealous of your leisurisms! Ok, I lie. We braced the icy cold and would much rather be at home in our slippers sipping chocolate flavoured breverages.

On another note, you have inspired me to brace the not-so-cold weekend and go snow-shoeing. I have been wanting to go since last winter to clear my mind on other subjects, but have never attempted the energy to actually start a vehicle to get there. This weekend, that will change and I shall walk on top of the powdery water for sure!

im in ur park trampling ur snow!
